Christoph Behrens is a queer(ing) scholar, writer und theater maker. Since 09/2019, he has been DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) lecturer in Intercultural and German Studies & Scientific Coordinator of Binational Teacher Training at the Université de Bourgogne, Dijon (FR). Contemporaneously, he is a lecturer in Francophone cultural studies at the University of Bremen (D).
Christoph held prior positions as lecturer and doctoral researcher in French and Italian Studies as well as in Gender & Queer Studies (2015-19) at the University of Rostock (DE), as lecturer in Comparative Literature (2018) at the Karl-Franzens-University of Innsbruck (A) and as foreign language instructor (Italian, French) (2014-15) at the Language Center and Department for Romance Studies at Rostock University.
Generally, his research is situated at the crossroads of Romance literary/cultural studies and queer-feminist theory on the one hand and drama pedagogy and performance studies at the other. Recent projects deal with relationality and affect in Romance literatures and media, queer-epistemological perspectives on failure as well as with the training of spoken production, intercultural and diversity competences in foreign language didactics with the help of performance theater methodology.
His work has been published in English, French, Italian, and German in (open access) journals and in edited volumes. Christoph co-edited several volumes and is co-editor-in-chief of apropos[Perspektiven auf die Romania], a multilingual open access journal in Romance cultural studies, and Gender(ed) Thoughts, an open access working paper series in Gender and Queer Studies.
In addition to his academic work, Christoph transfers his research interests into performance practice. Since 2012 he has been involved in collaborative theater making between France and Germany.
